The amount of maintenance required to keep your new deck looking great year after year depends on the material you choose for your decking and railing, and what you want the deck to look like in the end.

All wood will weather to grey if left untreated. Most will splinter, warp, and crack, the one exception being Ipe. Composite and Cellular P.V.C. decking materials have gained popularity over the past several years. These “low maintenance” products have become more refined in their second generation, some even coming close to the look of natural lumber.

There are many misconceptions concerning all the new decking products available. From our extensive experience no matter what brand you end up purchasing, all require periodic cleaning to keep them looking their best.

We live on an island, surrounded by water, in a region of the country with high pollen counts, and high humidity. These conditions are perfect for mold and mildew growth. Mold can, and will grow on concrete, pavers, wood, PVC fence, vinyl siding, and even your new deck. Expect to maintain your deck and know that it is easily manageable.
