Does Long Island Decking® do design work?
Yes, Long Island Decking® works with drafters, designers, and architects that can handle any of your design needs. We can even provide a 3D rendering of your new project free from charge after the signing of your contract.

Is there Sales Tax on my deck?
No, there is absolutely no sales tax on a capital improvement to your home. Anyone who informs you otherwise may be being less than truthful.

Is Long Island Decking® licensed and insured?
Our contractor’s license number is on record at the Nassau and Suffolk County consumers affairs offices. We carry a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy to protect your home in the unlikely event of an accident, and a full workman’s compensation policy to protect our workers. We are also a member of the Better Business Bureau which can be contacted at BBB.org, and the North American Deck and Railing Association.

Do I need a permit?
Whether or not you need a permit depends on your specific situation. Building codes vary considerably from town to town throughout Long Island. If permits are required for your project Long Island Decking® works with designers and architects that can handle any of your needs.

What is the best material to use for my project?
We install a full range decking materials from, pressure treated pine, cedar, redwood, mahogany, and Ipe. We are also experts in the installation of the new low maintenance products. The best choice for your new deck depends on your personal preference and budget. See our decking page under services for more info.

Do I need to maintain my new deck?
Yes, most wood decking left untreated will turn an unsightly gray, splinter, and warp, the one exception being Ipe. We recommend that wood decks are treated at least annually to maintain their natural warmth and beauty. Composites do not need to be sealed but still need to be cleaned. How often is up to you. Should I power wash my deck?
No, high pressure water and chemicals can ruin your decking, especially softer woods like cedar, and redwood. Only power wash your wood deck on occasion to get out several years of unsightly dirt or gray areas. Never power wash composite decking.

Do you build with composite materials?
Yes, we have been building with varying low maintenance composite materials for many years now, and are experts in this emerging sector of our industry.

What is Trex®?
Contrary to popular belief Trex® is not plastic decking. Trex® is a composite of both recycled hardwoods, and reclaimed plastics that when combined give Trex® decking both the workability of wood, and the low maintenance aspects of plastic. Trex® also offers a cellular PVC deck board that is even more resistant to stains and scratches than the original.
